Report

For the first assignment we took a trip to Leeds Royal Armoury, her I did numerous amounts of rough sketches and got many ideas that could help me with the project. I really liked the look of some of the weapons that they had on show for example the boot that had the dagger in the sole. I then came up with a few ideas of joining the weapons with modern day fashion and clothing. I played around with the idea of which weapon I could take and put with an item of clothing. I used Photoshop and its tools to make some rough ideas and get a feel at the angle that I wanted my project to go. I came to the decision of using a shoe with a handgun so my next step was to start developing my ideas.
I started by drawing some shoes that would be appropriate for my project, I also did the same for a selection of guns. I then chose the best show and the best gun and drew them together with the gun being in the heel of the boot. The final idea that I had was a ladies pistol and an ankle boot as show in my blog and sketch book. The final idea shows how the gun would work using a lever system attached to a bar that would be near the ball of the foot and would fire if the toes were clenched, I then went on the decided to add more material to the front of the shoe so that extra balance could be given when using the shoe.
I drew many perspective drawings for this part of the project, I experimented with 1, 2 and 3 points in the pictures. I went on to draw my neighbour’s car and living room and two parts of the university one and kedleston road library and another at the Markeaton street campus. I have always had a love for Disney so I decided to draw my cousins wall-e toy because it could be drawn in perspective reasonable easy. This is my favourite drawing of the year so far!
I then too k the picture of the Markeaton campus and experimented with both pastels and normal colouring crayons, I then took it from there into Photoshop and used the tools that it provides. I made the picture look altogether a better drawing and look more of an environment than it was before. I enjoyed art this year especially perspective because it has helped develop my overall art skill and see different objects with ha more accurate eye and the ability to see perspective lines without really thinking about it. This year has also challenged me with my drawing ability as well as the other modules have challenged other aspects. I feel that we need to be given a little more feedback as the class all seemed to be behind on the art assignments and struggled at times, however I think this was just due to the lack of time we had, we the agad milestone preventing some lectures and the bad weather. Overall I felt it was a fantastic and incredibly helpful start to the module!

Final Piece Drawing

I took the photo from the previous week and added in some grass colours and a sky filter. The idea of this task is to make it more like an environment drawing using the tools in photoshop.

Here is the result of the sky and grass. Slowly the picture is beginning to look more realistic

I then used the line tool to go over the building lines in perespective to the vanishing point.

Once all of the lines had been drawn over i began laying colour in layers of the drawing. The previous pastal colours helped me do this by identifying the foreground and background. I added colour in rows to make it easier for me to build. It began to look really good.

Finally i coloured and exagerated the top layer of the building. I used greys and blues on the drawing as the grass was vibrant enough to draw the viewer in and the building is second to be observed. I was really pleased with the result. I have never made a photo look this different before on photoshop. This was a really fun assignment that i really enjoyed doing. I just wish that we were given a series of environments rather than just one to create. I will make a few more drawings much like this one to put into my online portfolio!

Perspective Markeaton

Here are a couple of experiments i did with my drawing before i took it into photoshop. I just wanted to try some colour and different art materials

This is the drawing that i am using for my final

Here is a quick dry pastal drawing that i drew to show the different layers in the perspective view. It made the edges alot clearer aswell so i could develop it better.

I did a coloured drawing, to bring abit more depth to the picture and identify where the different levels in the drawing are. These experiments have helped me to "figure out" the picture. Next week i am going to start developing the drawing in photoshop to lead to my final piece!

More perspective

I had abit more practice with perspective before i began developing my piece for the assigment. Here are some drawings that i have done.

This is just a picnic table that i saw in the park which i sketched

Here is the birdtable that is in King Georges park in London

This is st annes church in derby.

This is a quick sketch of a car the was parked outside of my house

This is a drawing of Wall:E that i drew. My baby cousin has the toy figure of him, so i drew him from 2 point perspective. I am most proud of this once as i think it looks really. I think in the future im going to take this sketch further. Maybe take it into photoshop and develop it.

Perspective Assignment Part 1

I read the assessment criteria of the next assigment on U.D.O and have seen that the environment should be a developed sketch of one of the uni sketchs that we have done. I am going to use my markeaton sketch later on for that task. The first part of the assignment is to take environments into photoshop and draw some horizon lines ontop them. This will help us to understand perspective drawing alot better, so when we come to drawing ours, we can spot the lines alot easier and thus improve our drawing speed.

 1 point perspective

 2 point perspective

 3 point perspective

This task has really helped me to understand perspective. I was always a little confused, but by finding the horizon lines in all these pictures has helped me get how it works. This has been particularly useful i found!

University

In the lecture, we went to kedlestone road and were told to draw a rough sketch of a particular section of the uni. My group and i went to the library to get some interesting perspectives.

I drew a brief lined sketch of a row of library book shelves with the seats infront of each one. I did this because the small square cube seats gave a perfectly symetrical line which i really liked. After i drew the scene, i quickly coloured with some oil pastals. The different colours represent each layer of the drawing with the blue being the colour of the bookshelves to be the back layer, and the beight green to be the focus of the scene

This week i also went to markeaton as i thought the building itself portrayed a nice perspective. I drew the enterance by the ADT sign. I only sketched the lines, and went over them more when i got home.

Perspective drawing

Our lecture this week was on how to draw in perspective. We covered brief points on 1, 2 and 3 point perspectives. I thought i should do some practice drawings. Here are some of the drawings

This is a basic 1 point perspective drawing i did, just to show the vanishing points and the symetricality of the buildings

This is a two point perspective of a street. I thought i would draw a car aswell as i wanted a bit of a challenge. The result came out perfectly.

Three point perspective, which i find the holdest to draw. This was of a block of council flats where i live in essex but i exagerated the height to get a decent three point drawing :)

This is a perspective drawing of my front room in my house

This was just a simple experiment i did to see if i could draw a perspective detailed drawing from my imagination!

We were also given the assignment which is to draw a perspective drawing and work with it on photoshop  to create a more believeable environmental drawing. We were also told we would be drawing the university next week so i will use this as my practice for the assigment.

Final Prop Design

For my finaldesign i did a couple of sketches of some ideas. I then drew out a side top and bottom view of the final design and took it into photoshop and coloured it with some leather and golden patterns:

This is the design of the final show. I placed a large golden plate at the front of the shoe in an art deco shape. This is because the gun will be fire by flexing the foot and pushing the pressure points at the front of the shoe underneath the toes. It will also allow a larger surface area as walking on a gun heel is going to be difficult. To compensate, i added a wedge before the plate to balance out the persons body weight across the shoe and prevent the gun from constantly
firing.

This is the finished shoe once i had coloured it in photoshop. I have drawn it and coloured it from top and side angle. I absolutly loved this prop. I would love to make it in maya as i personally think it is a really awesome idea!

Shoe and Gun designs

I found pictures of current fashion shoes. i chose my four favourite designs so that i could develop the prop alongside these drawings,

Out of these shoes my favourite was the boot. i like its shape without the leg coverage so i will most likely use this as my basis

My favourite  of the guns was this one on the left. I like its decoration and its old fashioned style. This is the gun which i will combine with the shoe for my prop design

Development

This week i carried on developing my project ready for my entry new week and show sam my work and get some tips before i post them on the blog...sorry :) no work todayyy!

Photoshop

I experimented with these prop ideas and photoshopped some combinations to give me some more inspirations

Here i combined a pair of glasses with a gun barrel. I liked this idea as it would allow for lots of strange designs and fashionable glasses are very modern which would work perfectly with what i intend to achieve.

Here i combined gloves with a knife and gun (as the thumbs) i was least keen on this idea but i designed it as development towards the final idea. At least i explored it! :)

This was another one of my favourites. I combined a watch with ninja-star like blades. The design was really funky, however, practicality issues would mean that it would probably be very incomfortable to wear and use so i scrapped this idea.

Here i combined an umbrella with a grenade to create a missle/timer grenade. I did like this idea but it was to similar to the penguins umbrella from batman so i decided not to follow this idea.

This was definatly my favourite. I got the inspiration for this when i was watching planet terror and the main character gets her leg cut off and replaces it with a machine gun. Obviously i could not design an organic leg so i thought about combining modern shoe-wear with a gun as the heal which could be activated much like the shoe-blades spring mechanism that i saw in the royal armoury. This is the idea i want to follow for my prop!

Prop design research

I did some research into popular clothing and weapon combinationsto help me get some inspiration for my prop design

The blade being part of a bracer and glove. This is most famous for being in the new game series assassins creed, but was actually a venician weapon.

The shoe blade has been around as a weapon since early japanese armour and weaponary. It orginally had a pressure spring mechanism that was attatched to the feet of samurai for close range combat.

The penguin in batman has an umbrella which is a multitude of deifferent weaponary. It is a gun, can expell different deadly gases and conceal a blade in the frame. It is a very exagerated but impressive weeapon idea. This was my favourite of the examples i found.

Prong gloves where a popular weapon within china within the 220 - 265 C.E (The Han Dynasty) it was a set of blades attatched to a glove-like gauntlet. it looks alot more intimidating than the damage it would actually produce which was one of the reasons that it phased out, however i think its a very decrotive and impressive weapon design.

Royal Armoury

Here are a few drawings that i did from the royal armoury. I have chosen my best ones. I thought that it was a really good trip. I do find weapons quiet interesting and the assignment sam gave us was to create a prop combining some wepons or props. She said that the royal armourys are perfect for inspirations and this was true. Aside from the usual wepons, there were some very strange ones such as elephant armour which i drew and historical chinese shoes with blades built into the sole.

My favourite of the drawins is the elephant armour. Its so unique and wierdly shaped i had to draw it. I drew some of the tradiotional weapons aswell like a pistol and sword etc. just so i could familiarise myself with the shapes better. I liked the idea of merging some modern day clothing with some old styled weapons at the armoury. Im going to develop this idea as my prop design.
